Wall beds Murphy beds

hidden - Efficient - comfortable - SPACE SAVING

Murphy beds come in two formats - verticle or horizontal.

The main differances between the two are mostly the rooms footprint, ease of access and aesthetics.

A verticle bed permits 2 people to access the bed on both the left and right, whereas the horizontal type only affords top or bottom access as one side is against a wall.

Horizontal beds are more suited to narrow rooms or children's rooms where space needs to be freed up.

Both formats can be ordered with display / storage cabinets either side, configured to individual needs or design criteria.

WHY ARE WALL BEDS KNOWN ALL OVER THE WORLD AS MURPHY BEDS.

The story, according to the Smithsonian Institute, reports that the Murphy bed was invented by Willam Lawrence Murphy around 1900 in San Francisco.

According to the legend, he was courting a young opera singer and customs forbade a young lady from entering a gentleman's bedroom.

His invention allowed him to "hide" his bed thus turning his bedroom into a parlor.

His idea immediatly gained popularity with young men who had the same needs.

For many decades the Murphy bed Co was the "go to company" for wall beds and today is run by his grandson William Clark Murphy.
